Think your computer has a virus?
Here are the real signs, and what to actually do about it.
1
Know the signs
Pop ups everywhere, a super slow PC, or your browser opening sites you never typed are the big red flags.
2
Don't click it
If a pop up says you are infected and to call a number, do not click or call, that pop up is the scam.
3
Get offline
Disconnect from WiFi so anything bad cannot keep talking to the internet while you clean it up.
4
Run a scan
Open Windows Security and run a full scan, or use the free Malwarebytes scan, then remove what it finds.
5
Back up files
Copy your important photos and files to another drive in case the PC needs a fresh setup.
!
Heads up
Any warning that tells you to call a number or pay to fix a virus is a scam, so never call or pay. A bad infection sometimes needs the computer wiped and set up fresh, so back up your files first. If your bank logins or passwords were on there, change them from a different device to be safe.
